In Rhye's and Fall of Civilization there are 7 religions which are the same as the unmodded version of Civ 4 and are as follows:

  • Judaism
  • Hinduism
  • Buddhism
  • Confucianism
  • Taoism
  • Christianity
  • Islam

To found a religion you must discover a certain technology that will give it to you. The technology needed is chosen to ensure three things:

  1. The technology somehow relates to the religion (e.g. Buddhism on meditation)
  2. The technology is at a level of progression where the A.I. or a casual player (i.e. not one rushing towards the tech //in order to// get the religion) will found it in a year close to when the religion was historically founded.
  3. The technology is usually first researched (again when left to the A.I. or a casual player) by a Civilization which is near its starting location or was influential to the founding of the religion (e.g. Islam is almost always founded by Arabia), without any hardcoding.
Judaism Monotheism Jerusalem
Hinduism Polytheism India
Buddhism Meditation India
Confucianism Mathematics China
Taoism Calendar China
Christianity Theology Rome or Greece
Islam Divine Right Arabia

There has been some discussion over the accuracy of Jewish 'missionaries', and an optional modcomp was created by users of the mod, removing Judaism and replacing it with Zoroastrianism.
