Rhye's and Fall of Civilization dynamic names

From Rhye's Mods Wiki

One of the distinguishing features of Rhye's and Fall of Civilization is the dynamic civ names function. This function allows your civilization's name to change automatically as it progresses through history, changes governments, adopts a state religion, etc.

In order to check your civilization's dynamic name, go to the foreign advisor and look under your civ leader's potrait. Or you can pass the mouse over the civ's short names on the scoreboard.

Since the last patch, you'll get the long names directly in the scoreboard:

If you want to restore the short names, in Screens\CvMainInterface.py, replace around line 2990 the occurances of getCivilizationDescription(0) with getCivilizationShortDescription(0)

Meaning of names

Each set of long names is in an XML file, located in the Rhye's and Fall of Civilization/Assets/XML/Text/ folder. Each file follows an identical schema, in which the names are presented according to choice of civics, as follows:

• Description; name on opening screen
• Initial name before any city is founded
• Despotism or Hereditary Rule: Early game, small
• Despotism or Hereditary Rule: Early game, large
• Despotism or Hereditary Rule: Late game, small
• Despotism or Hereditary Rule: Late game, large

Name selection process

The name is chosen according to a process in the modified DLL file. This explains how the name is chosen when there are multiple possibilities, e.g. an Islamic Police State that is a vassal of America. The process itself is in CvPlayer.py and much of the data is in CvRhyes.py.

1. Check if player is both alive and a major civ, i.e. not Celts, Natives, etc.
2. If the player is a vassal, choose the appropriate name, then stop.
3. If the player is in the Islamic world, and if its state religion is Islam, choose the Islamic name appropriate for its Government civic, then stop.
4. If the player is using State Property, choose the State Property name, then stop.
5. If the player is using Police State or Nationhood, choose the Police State or Nationhood name, then stop.
6. If the player is not in the Islamic world, and if its state religion is Islam, choose the Islamic name appropriate for its Government civic, then stop.
7. If the player is using Representation or Universal Suffrage, choose the Representation or Universal Suffrage name, then stop.
8. If the player is using Despotism or Hereditary Rule, choose the appropriate name for the current era and number of cities.

Notes

• The "Islamic world" civs are Egypt, India, Babylonia, Persia, Carthage, Ethiopia, Arabia, Mali and Turkey.
• "Early" and "late" eras depend on the civ. A civ switches from early name to late name when it reaches:
  • Medieval Era for Egypt, Babylonia, Greece and Carthage;
  • Renaissance Era for India, Persia, Rome, Ethiopia, Maya, Viking, Mali, Inca, Mongolia, Aztec and Turkey.
  • Industrial Era for all other civs: China, Japan, Arabia, Khmer, Spain, France, England, Germany, Russia, Dutch, Portugal, America.
• A civ is "small" if it owns 6 or fewer cities. It is "large" if it owns seven or more cities.

The last two points only affects non-Islamic civs using Despotism or Hereditary Rule.
